Catalyst is the MENA region's first technology startup accelerator focused on sustainability and clean technology, jointly launched in November 2015 by Masdar (now Masdar City) and bp, with initial USD 5 million funding from bp. Relaunched in 2018 with broader scope. Based in Masdar City Free Zone, Abu Dhabi. Managing Director: Swethal Kumar. To date Catalyst has invested in 10 startups from its first fund. A second fund was launched at Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week January 2025, awarding $100,000 each to three startups (AED Energy, Solumar, Batsand). Has partnered with Hub71 since January 2023 to support climate-tech startups.
